DJ Jay Smooth put what he learned from radio to work when he launched his videoblog Illdoctrine.comSmooth started with a sense of how to use media and a passion for Hip Hop music. Radio training served him well. Good sound he says matters more than good picture. All the video we watch on the web is so compressed people are used to mediocre quality.

“ Sound is usually the first thing I focus on,” says Smooth of his recording techniques. He uses a prosumer camera without a microphone input. “I actually unplug the refrigerator before I record to make sure it’s the best sound I can get. I have experience with audio editing so I do all the cuts based on the (sound) waves and usually the visuals fall into place with a little bit of fine tuning.
